Artifact 1: This was an interview that I created and proposed in my COME 124 class I believe. The assignment was to pick a category that included 8 different subjects. I ended up deciding on a career path. So I was to research a career that seemed interesting at the time. I chose to conduct an interview with a local radio icon in my hometown of Wausau, WI named Terry Stevens. Mr. Stevens was kind enough to finish the interview and answer every question I sent him. This artifact shows my ability to take part in the communication process and apply my findings and create a poster. You cannot do this successfully with a poor interview process and a lack of communication skills.
Artifact 2: This assignment was given in my COME 124 class during my freshman year. This was an assignment dedicated to researching major media outlets in today’s world. I believe each student was to pick a company out of a hat by chance and I got Viacom, the multi-faceted media empire that was the mastermind behind MTV. This paper demonstrates my communication inquiry skills by showcasing my ability to interpret research and create an easy to read paper that explains what Viacom is and how that became that big. This
Artifact 3: This was my Final research proposal that I finished this past semester of my senior year. We were to find a subject of mass communication theory and create and proposal for researching that theory. This was a very difficult process. I successfully was able to interpret and research many different published articles and able to gather enough information to create this proposal.
Artifact 4: This was an assignment that was given in my Comm 380-course Research Methods during my junior year. It was another research proposal that was basically the same as Artifact 3. But this one collaborated between me and 2 of my other classmates. Together we conducted a similar process as artifact 3, but out topic was the effect on the perspectives of mental illness after being exposed to different portrayals in several pieces of media. We created an experiment and proposed several steps of the communication process that further shows my ability to take part in communication inquiry.
Creative Communication Messages
Artifact 1: This is an assignment that was given my junior year in COME 352: media effects. This was an assignment to find a topic of media effects and create a project to present. My partner and I chose to do a video because we felt we are capable of creating a successful video. We decided to do the dissemination project on Sports media effects, specifically mirror neurons. This shows my ability to create a message for the right audience as it is a video-based on our project topic.
Artifact 2: This was an assignment given in my Media relations course. The assignment was each student was to choose a social movement or fundraiser and create a public outreach message. I was also tasked with coming up with another fundraiser and creating a presentation for the entire class to watch. This was a PowerPoint dealing with ALS and a new fundraiser surfaced around a hot pepper eating challenge, similar to the ice bucket challenge. This obviously showcases my ability to create a successful message made for a specific audience in creating a PR campaign.
Artifact 3: This was an assignment given also in my Media Relations course during my junior year. This was a group project in which each group was given an existing company and would have to figure out a way to fix a new problem. Our company was Kwik Trip and we had to create an emergency PR campaign to minimize reputation damage because we were supposedly caught up charging on our gas pumps. This shows my ability to again create an appropriate message for a specific audience.
Artifact 4: This was an assignment given in my persuasion course during my junior year. As a group, we were tasked with choosing a format to present our project on, then create a new persuasive message campaign using persuasion appeals we had learned in class. My group decided on doing a video because of my skills as a videographer and resources. We decided to do a message dealing with the recent happening of Misconduct and TITLE IX stuff. This shows that I was able to help create a successful persuasive message to a specific audience.
Artifact 1: This was an assignment given in my Persuasion course during my junior year. The assignment was for the entire day to write down every persuasive message you were exposed to during. Then we were supposed to analyze each message and try to understand what they were saying and why. This shows my ability to understand different communication styles, the ability to interpret different messages and comprehend why I am seeing that message.
Artifact 2: This was a simple assignment given in my COME 124 class during my freshman year. This was an assignment where each student was given a published article and we were supposed to decipher it’s meaning and create our own opinion on the matter. This was an article dealing with radio talk shows and their effects on the different types of content. This shows I am able to read academic articles and create my own opinion based on my analyzation.
Artifact 3: This was my Final research proposal that I finished this last semester of my senior year. We were to find a subject of mass communication theory and create and proposal for researching that theory. This was a very difficult process. I successfully was able to interpret and research many different published articles and able to gather enough information to create this proposal.
Artifact 4: This assignment was given during my Sophomore year in my Gender & Media course.
